Family Mediation

Mediation built around the realities of raising a child with a disability.

I offer mediation specifically for couples with children with disabilities. Divorce and custody agreements for these families require a deep understanding of current and long-term care needs. I help parents reach agreements that truly account for their child’s future.

Why It Is Different

Not Standard Divorce Mediation

General divorce mediation is built around dividing time, property, and standard child support — it does not always account for the therapies, services, and long-term planning a child with a disability may need well into adulthood. My goal is to help both parents reach an agreement that reflects your child’s actual needs, not a generic template.

What Mediation Can Cover

Parenting plans that account for therapies and services; decision-making authority for educational and medical choices; and financial planning for ongoing care as your child grows.

Common Questions

Frequently Asked Questions

Do both spouses need to agree to mediate?

Yes — mediation is a voluntary process. Both parents need to be willing to sit down and work toward an agreement together, with my help, rather than through separate adversarial representation.

What happens if we cannot reach a full agreement?

As a mediator, I do not represent either party, so each party should have their own review counsel. Even a partial agreement is valuable because it narrows the issues in dispute. Your review counsel can advise you on anything that remains unresolved.

Can mediation address our child’s future needs, not just what is happening now?

Yes — that is the core difference from standard divorce mediation. We can build in plans for how decisions get made as your child’s needs change over time, not just a snapshot of today.
