Learn more →Guardian Ad Litem (GAL)
As a GAL, I serve as an independent voice for children in custody and family court matters. My background in special education gives me a unique ability to advocate for the best interests of children whose disabilities must be understood and accounted for in any court decision.
Learn more →Family Mediation
I offer mediation specifically for couples with children with disabilities. Divorce and custody agreements for these families require a deep understanding of current and long-term care needs. I help parents reach agreements that truly account for their child’s future.

Common Questions
Frequently Asked Questions
Do I need a special education attorney, or just an educational advocate?
An advocate supports and guides you through the process, whether there is a current dispute or not. I only take on matters that have an actual legal basis — something that could go to mediation or due process if it is not resolved. Some matters require an attorney early on, but most families work through advocacy first, on their own or with an educational advocate, and bring in an attorney once they hit an impasse.
What does a Guardian ad Litem (GAL) actually do?
A GAL serves as an independent voice for a child in custody and family court matters, advocating for the child’s best interests separately from either parent’s position, or even what the child wants. My background in special education means I bring particular attention to how a child’s disability should factor into the court’s decisions.
How is your family mediation different from typical divorce mediation?
I mediate specifically for couples raising a child with disabilities. General divorce mediation does not always account for the long-term care, service, and financial planning these families need — my goal is to help both parents reach an agreement that genuinely reflects their child’s current and future needs.
How does billing work?
For special education matters, I bill primarily in fixed fees so you know what to expect and when. Litigation and other matters are hourly. Costs and the process are made clear before we begin, whatever the billing structure ends up being for your matter.
Do I have to travel to meet with you?
No — the office is virtual and paperless, with secure digital document sharing and a Parent Portal for messaging. PPTs, mediations, and most other meetings happen by video conference; hearings are held in person only when required. For necessary in-person GAL meetings, I travel to you.
